Synopsis
In 3 different communities in Romania, 3 categories of young people, young people with disabilities from a day center in the village of Domnesti and from the Special School in Breaza; young people from the Sinaia Breaza Placement Center and young Roma people from Dobromir, one of the poorest villages in Romania, express their desires during film and script workshops, wanting to make a film based on their lives.
Director’s Statement
The film is an exploration of unspoken desires and the hidden struggles of marginalized youth in Romania—young people with disabilities, children from orphanages, and Roma youth from impoverished villages. Through scriptwriting and arts workshops, they craft a story based on their lives, revealing their most intimate hopes and fears. The film gives voice to these young people, shedding light on their desire to be seen, loved, and respected in a world that often overlooks them.
By weaving together the narratives of the children and their parents, the film reveals the profound impact of bullying, the yearning for basic necessities like clean water and access to education, and the dream of a loving family. In juxtaposing the lives of children from different backgrounds—those in special schools, orphanages, and marginalized Roma communities—the film paints a striking portrait of the universal longing for dignity and belonging.
Ultimately, this is a film about resilience, empathy, and the shared humanity that unites us all, regardless of our circumstances.
The film was created in the IMPACT project, financed by the Local Development Programme, Norwegian funds, with the purpose of promoting inclusive education through arts in Romania.
